Material to be handled enters the highest point of the lodging and streams over the surface of the drum. As the drum shell pivots around the stationary attractive field, all non-ferrous item which is unaffected by the magnet, falls free from the drum into the cleaned material stream. Any ferrous tramp metal is caught by the attractive field and is hung on the drum's surface. As the drum turns, the metal is conveyed past the diverter and discharged outside of the attractive field.
